Growing Strong Writers: Introducing the TREE Method for Opinion Writing
Teaching opinion writing to early learners can often feel like trying to plant a garden in a storm. For our youngest students in kindergarten and those in remediation groups, moving from a simple "I like cats" to a structured paragraph is a massive developmental leap. That is why I am so excited to share my latest resource:
The TREE Method Opinion Writing Bundle.
Why the "TREE" Method?
While many of us are familiar with the OREO mnemonic, using brand-specific terms in commercial resources can be tricky. More importantly, the TREE analogy offers a beautiful, visual way for children to understand how a thought "grows":
T - Topic Sentence (The Roots): Every great opinion needs a strong foundation.
R - Reason (The Trunk): This is the strength that holds the argument up.
E - Evidence & Explain (The Branches): These add detail and "spread out" the idea.
E - Ending (The Leaves): A finishing touch that makes the tree complete.
What’s Inside the 27-Page Bundle?
I designed this bundle with a human-centric approach, ensuring every page meets the specific needs of early childhood pedagogy. It includes:
High-Contrast Anchor Charts: Bold, black-outline posters that provide clear visual boundaries for students with symbolic processing needs.
Scaffolded Practice Pages: Over 30 "Would You Rather" prompts featuring clear illustrations and built-in sentence starters to eliminate "blank page syndrome".
Designed for Real Classrooms
As an educator, I know that teachers need resources that are both effective and practical. This set features a low-ink, high-impact design which is perfect for high-volume school printing while remaining visually engaging for small hands.
Whether you are implementing the Science of Reading or looking for systematic ways to transition students from simple sentences to descriptive sensory writing, the TREE Method provides the scaffolding your students need to succeed.
